Columbia Irrigation District is set to commence the filling and flushing of the canal system on March 25th. This essential process typically spans five to seven days, starting from the introduction of water at Wanawish Dam and continuing through the entire canal network.

Individuals who extract water directly from the canal, a crucial reminder is to refrain from immediate pumping upon water appearance. Rushing to pump can lead to system blockages due to weed and debris accumulation. Clearing these obstructions might extend to three weeks or longer. Hence, it's advised to allow for a thorough flushing of the canal before initiating pumping activities

Given the anticipated surge in inquiries during the priming phase, the District recommends keeping all valves in the off position initially. This proactive measure will facilitate an initial canal flush, potentially minimizing call volumes and enabling staff to focus on repairs and debris clearance efficiently.

Dates for Water Delivery vary depending on where you live. We begin turning on water in West Richland, and end in Kennewick. CID's goal is to have the entire District's water on by:

Monday April 19, 2024.+ However, in the event of main line breaks this may delay the start up of water. We appreciate your patience during this time.

In the event of leaks, our team will promptly isolate the affected area. Once the priming process is completed, necessary repairs will be initiated. Should you encounter any problems with your service valve, please contact our office, and a work order will be promptly scheduled for maintenance.
