Director Election – Expired Terms

Two Director Terms will expire December 31, 2011. The positions are for District 4, South Oak to Haney Road and District 5, Haney Road to Columbia River. Current Directors or anyone interested in a Director Position, who live within the boundary of the Division, can request a Declaration of Candidacy and Petition of Nomination for Election.
The RCWs (Revised Code of Washington) listed below must be followed by the District:
District Election
- RCW 87.03.075 – Petition for nomination must be filed in the district office no later than five o’clock p.m. on the first Monday in November.
- Petitions shall be signed by at least ten
qualified electors of the division - RCW 87.03.075 – If only one qualified candidate has been nominated for the position it is not necessary to hold an election. The board of directors shall declare such candidate elected as director at
their next regular meeting. - RCW 87.03.080 – Should an election be necessary it shall be held on the second Tuesday of December.
- RCW 87.03.085 – The notice for election shall be posted in three public places in each election precinct and posed in the office of the board.
- The notices shall be posted fifteen days before the election
- RCW 87.03.085 – Prior to the posting of the notices, the board shall appoint a board of election from the electors of the division, consisting of one inspector and two judges.
- RCW 87.03.090 – Prior to the opening of the polls, the members of the board of election must take and subscribe an oath.
- RCW 87.03.090 – The polls must be opened at one o’clock p.m. and kept open until eight o’clock p.m.
Elector Qualifications
- RCW 87.03.051/RCW 87.04.010 – An elector is any person eighteen years old, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the state and who holds title or evidence of title to assessable land in the district director division.
- RCW 87.03.051 – Voting rights are based on the aggregate of all assessable acres owned by an elector, individually or jointly.
The voting rights are allocated as follows: - Two votes for each five acres of assessable land or fraction thereof.
a. Land held as community property, the accumulated votes may be divided equally between husband and wife.
b. Land with more than one ownership interest, the election board shall recognize the first elector to appear on Election Day as the elector having the authority to cast the ballots for that parcel.
