The purpose of constructing checks is to better control the water level in the Main Canal as part of the overall water management program. The temporary check that was installed downstream of the Riek Pump Station will be removed and replaced with a permanent one. In addition, a new permanent check will be constructed approximately 1/4 mile downstream from Oak and Bowles.
Large silt berms in the Main Canal and Lateral 2 are causing problems as they supply areas for heavy weed growth that can restrict water flow through the canal system. During the off-season District employees have been removing silt from the Main Canal between 27th Avenue and Oak Street, and from Lateral 2 between Haney Road and Finley Road.
The Escalator on 25th Avenue is in the process of being reconstructed to help with automated debris removal from Lateral 2. We will be disassembling the existing structure and upgrading it with a more modern drive system and flexible stainless steel conveyor. A small portion of Lateral 2 directly in front of the Escalator will be reconstructed to route the water into the face of the Escalator instead of allowing a portion of it to bypass. A secondary "take away" conveyor will be built …
The Main Canal Rehab Project consists of work to be completed on the District's Right-of-way on the Lower end of the Main Canal from Piert Road to Haney Road. The work will involve removal of problem trees and brush on either side of the Main Canal. The canal bank will be partially filled with dirt and ballast rock and re-shaped on the back side to bring the bank back into its proper profile. CID is addressing ground water problems on the backside by piping excess water from collection …
During the 2009/2010 non irrigation season the District began another phase of the main canal relining project partially funded by a grant from the Department of Ecology. The project extends 2300 feet from just east of 38th Street to just beyond the Broadview-Riverside Street Intersection.
The District used two long-reach trackhoes to remove the 6" of dirt. Huge boulders created a big challenge. The canal was shaped and dirt compacted to prepare for the liner.

Ditch Riders spend two to three weeks during pre-water season to clean debris and burn tumble weeds from the irrigation canals.
Mower Operators are kept busy throughout the irrigation season mowing weeds along the ditch bank.
Ditch Riders continually spray for noxious weeds. Our spray truck makes the job easier and more efficient.
The escalator located on Lateral 2 at E 25th Avenue lifts debris out of the canal for easy disposal.
During the fall and winter months, patching is done in …
This project began August of 2007. When the project was completed a total of 19,719 feet of pipe was installed. LID #63 delivers pressurized water to approximately 908 parcels.
